Perry was born on the 25th of July 1968 in Chicago, Illinois to Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. Perry made her debut on television as Jackie Harris, a character that was played by her mother on her role on the ABC comedy Roseanne. Fearing stress, her parents didn't want to see the actress pursue acting until she reached the age of 18. Perry states that she did not want to become an actor during high school, but she decided to begin playing as a way to make friends during her time at Northwestern University when she switched to it from Boston University. Perry managed to get minor TV roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent when she finished her degree. The feeling of homelessness, however, caused her to move back to California again where she began to work in the stage. In 2013, she was a part of The Other Place on Broadway along with her mother. She appeared in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie, along with Kevin McKidd. This was performed at West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry was a part of nine episodes of ABC's show The Family. In 2017 she had a recurring role on the ABC Political thriller Scandal starring her father. Also, she was cast on the CBS show The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger than Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mom. The role was selected via auditions the fact that she had a deep association with it.
